Founded by Isabel Rubio, Knit B’ham continues her work of community building by creating a welcoming space for all people to gather around their common interest in making magic with beautiful yarn.  Knit B’ham strives to bring ethically sourced and processed natural fibers to our customers to promote slow fashion and build sustainable wardrobes.

Our Classes

Knit B’ham is delighted to bring a variety of classes to both new and experienced fiber artists in our newly dedicated classroom space.

Our Classes are held inside our cozy shop on Clairmont Avenue and are taught by our talented local instructors.

Classes must have a minimum of two folks enrolled to proceed, and have a cap of six folks each. Please sign up early to ensure your spot. Kits with class materials are available for purchase prior to your first session of class. We release new classes every month- if there is something you would love to see a class on, let us know!

Class Policies

If you must miss a class, we will work with you to accommodate space in an upcoming class within 3 months. No credit is offered for no shows. Cancellations must be made 72 hours prior to first class by calling the shop at 205.538.5246 or emailing knitbham@gmail.com. If a class does not meet the minimum sign ups, we will not be able to proceed, and will contact you ahead of time to inform you of any changes.

Please understand that we cannot offer refunds.

  • Ranunculus Sweater KAL

    Join Jamie in a fun knitalong of one of the most popular and customizable sweaters on Ravelry- the Ranunculus Sweater by Midori Hirose.

    You can make it in any weight or sleeve length! See below for more info and sign up for free. We will gather around the table and meet every Wednesday in April from 11:00-12:30 PM to knit and have questions answered!

  • Third Space Fiber Society

    2nd & 4th Thursday of each month 5:00 - 7:30.

    Join fellow fiber craft artists each month as we grow our fiber community! We serve tea, coffee, and water and welcome you to bring the beverage of your choice.

  • Knitflix and Chill - Knives Out (2019)

    Join us for a special screening of Rian Johnson's Knives Out (2019) on Thursday, March 6th at 7 PM. Lights will be a little brighter than usual in the theater so you can bring your knitting, crochet or any other craft project! If you're looking for something new to make, we will be selling kits for your own Knives Out inspired project. Tix available at sidewalkfest.com!

Sign Up for the Ranunculus Sweater KAL

Isabel is wearing a short sleeve Ranunculus knit with two laceweights held double (La Bien Aimee Helix and Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair). Our mannequin has a long sleeved version made of Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino (worsted weight) and KFO Soft Silk Mohair. Jamie is wearing a cropped version with two laceweights held double.

Jamie is leading the knit along and will be in the shop every Wednesday in April. We’re gathering from 11 AM- 12:30PM.

Yarn weight: You can use lace, light fingering to worsted weight yarn. The degree of transparency depends on the weight of yarn. Knitting with thin yarn on big needle gives light, transparent and airy texture to this pullover. Using thicker yarn or holding two yarns together adds more weight, and more structured look. For a summer weight try DanDoh Silk+ or Linen. Quince & Co Kestrel or Sparrow. Any laceweights held double like La Bien Aimee Helix would be gorgeous, or you could take advantage of the rainbow of colors on our fingering weight wall for your perfect shade.

Needles:
6 mm US 10 circular needle as main needle. 5 mm US 8 needle for hem ribbing and finishing sleeve. Adjust needle size if necessary to get gauge.

Our Services

Knit B’ham is delighted to offer the following services:  

  • 15 minutes or less - Free, time permitting

    After 15 minutes, $20 for each additional 15-minute block of time.

  • $40 - 1/2 hour

    $60 - 1 hour

  • Blocking: We will wet or steam block your knitted and crocheted items to give them a finished look. Please allow for a two-week turnaround.

    Baby Items - minimum $20

    Hats, Gloves, Mittens, Scarves - minimum $20

    Adult Items - minimum $30

    Weaving in Ends: minimum $30

  • Mending of knitted garments, including but not limited to sweaters, socks, blankets, & accessories.

    Minimum $20 per repair.
