Knitting Technique: Beginning Brioche
Instructor: Molly Isen
Date: Saturday, May 31st and Saturday June 7th from 10:30 AM to noon
Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites:
Must be confident knitting, purling, making a 1×1 ribbing, and doing any cast on of choice.
Join advanced knitter Molly Isen to learn the basics of brioche stitch in this two part class. Brioche is a distinctive ribbed knitting technique that is made by alternating columns of slipped stitches with yarnovers and knit or purl stitches. This stitch allows you to make a highly textural, full reversible raised fabric that has a serious wow factor.
In the first class, you will make swatches of both one and two color brioche to learn the stitch pattern.
In the second class, you will knit a brioche lace swatch to learn increasing and decreasing in the brioche stitch using a chart.
Things to Note
This is not a project class, but by the end of your second session, you should have a solid grasp on the skills you need for your first brioche stitch project.
We recommend looking at the Ravelry pages of Nancy Marchant, Susanne Sommer, and Stephen West for an idea of what is possible with this versatile stitch type!
Materials:
Any two DK or Worsted weight yarns in solid contrasting colors. The higher the contrast, the better.
Appropriate circular needles for your yarn size
Cost: $75 for two weekend classes
