Knitting Project: Socks
Date: Saturday May 10th, May 17th, and May 31st from 1-2:30 PM
Instructor: Tamara Oechslin
Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate
Learn to knit well-fitting, handmade socks. Nothing is warmer or cozier on a cool morning! We will use a basic, 2x2 ribbed, top-down sock pattern. Previous experience knitting in the round is preferred but not necessary. Students can choose to knit with 4-5 DPNs, two circulars or one long circular needle- we welcome all methods in this class.
Those with previous sock knitting experience are welcome to learn 2-at-a-time (no second sock syndrome!) on circular needles with the understanding that you will need to commit to knitting two full socks in 3 classes.
Newer knitters and those doing two socks are encouraged to choose either the DK or Worsted option on the yarn suggestions list below.
Materials:
3 Needle Options:
DPNs
Circulars
- (1) 40” or 47” for Magic Loop
- (2) 24” or 32” (Tamara’s preference is a US 2 32” circular for 2-at-a-time)
Tapestry Needle
Soft Measuring Tape
Yarn Suggestions
US 1 needles and ~440 yards fingering weight yarn, or
US 3 needles and ~350 yards DK weight yarn, or
US 5 needles and ~300 yards worsted weight yarn
Class participants will receive 10% off class materials prior to class- please come in early to pick out yarn and have it wound for class.
